Pegasus at sunset – just a little bit special.
We are building the most amazing “Slice of Life” book of this families first year with two kiddos – a real heirloom – something to treasure and to one day pass onto their children.
Six wonderful weeks
My mummy & big sister before I came into this world.
It Lucas would speak, I think he would say that he is loved too much, especially by his siblings.
My children and I are having the best time exploring Christchurch and all its wonderful parks and reserves. Here’s a few favorites from a recent photography location hunt down at the Waimakariri River, minutes from what will soon be my new studio in Swannanoa.
I cant wait to do an evening maternity shot down here, to shoot across the water and create some beautiful reflections… Oh and our new car signage – say hi if you see me around 🙂
BLUEBELLS… I love them. This time last year I managed to leave my 6 week old baby with hubby for an entire 10 minutes to photograph my daughter.. It was quite funny, we ran from the car, I almost dropped my camera, ellie was squealing and super excited to have some alone time amongst newborn chaos… I thought I would regre not taking the time to brush her hair, but now I love it, its funny how such a small thing brings back so many memories of what those first few weeks were like as a new mum of three… and to be completely honest, I think I’m only just recovering and feeling like I can actually venture out of the house on my own with all three of them AND my camera… I dont know why, but adding my camera in there is like adding in another child, its something else to watch and look after… But we did it… We found ourselves a lovely patch of bluebells in Little Hagley Park and had waaaay too much fun in doing so.
So now that I have done it a few times SUCCESSFULLY I thought its only fair I share my recipe for a successful photoshoot with three kids and no husband… Always ALWAYS bring your Ukulele you can fix almost any situation with a song… The second most vital ingredient is bring THREE TIMES as much food as your children would normally eat given the same time period. A key point to keep in mind here is the colour of the food, never ever bring chocolate peanut butter balls, they taste delicious but if a spontaneous moment of cuteness arises your children look like they have been eating poo which totally ruins the serenity. So instead I made Bliss Balls with coconut, almonds cacao butter & honey – they were amaze, that along with enough popcorn (with butter) to fill a large bucket and you’re SWEET!
So at this point, I was happy… slightly disappointed that the Bluebells were almost dead, but still pretty stoked with the other images we made. So we piled back in the car and set off for home.
Then i relised I wasn’t even at Little Hagley Park… I did think it was quite small.. NO i was at some little side of the road patch of grass…. And there were the Bluebells!!! But as I had no more food… YES they ate all that, I had to rely on my children’s niceness.. My daughter is nice, but only for two photos – so here they are – HAHA. Story of my life.
NEXT TIME 4 times as much food as normal.Such a lady!

I might have to plant myself an Olive Grove outside the new studio I love the depth & the little dainty leaves… Melissa looks pretty amazing too!
I cannot handle her cuteness… and the love her mumma has for her – just b e a u t i f u l. I cant wait to photograph more gorgeous christchurch families.
LOOK AT THIS FACE! so ridiculously sweet xx

I love light… normally I shoot with a lot of it.
However our new place in Blenheim is incredibly dark.
Tinted windows, dark carpet, dark walls and large trees surrounding the back of the property.
It has been making me feel slightly depressed 🙁
So I played all day today, I got out of my funk… and eventually did find a little bit of magic.
It scared me at first, its so not me… but now i think I’m in love.
It seemed fitting one of my last shoots in Northland to go right back to where it all began..
Some of my first clients at my favorite first location in Paihia…
It was here that I first worked out light.. I found my love of open shade and pops of colour… I discovered that it wasn’t a magical forest I was after, instead I needed a magical carpark.
A place where clients could easily find me, I could drive my car right up and unload the contents of my car right into the carpark/magical forest.. Not only that but gravel bounces light just the right amount..
But even more importantly… this is the place where I met my Hayley, worlds best friend and fellow photographer… sigh… those were the days.
Anyways back to the pictures below.. Two gorgeous girls… Their Mum has been such a great friend to me & an awesome supporter of my little business, cant thank her enough… Oh and she is also a Toy Lady.. Yes, I know Cool job… you can check her shop out here
